About the Instructor

hatha yoga

Hello, I am Sharon Mortimer and am a clinical psychotherapist & hypnotherapist, as well as a qualified Yoga instructor and Reiki Master. I am passionate about peoples well being and how people can enhance their life in so many ways. I love animals – any animal, I also enjoy baking, the outdoors, puzzles, listening music and theatre. I like being around people especially when we can laugh. I am married and have 1 daughter and live in Bradford.

About Believe & Achieve

I started Believe & Achieve around 2016, with Yoga and then later added Reiki & Clinical Psychotherapy & Hypnotherapy (believeachieve.uk). I also promote & sell Neal’s Yard Remedies products – which I use and love (uk.nyrcatalogue.com/sharonmortimer).

This site details the Yoga side of the business. We welcome all ages, sizes, abilities, including those who may need a chair, those with injury or just feel less flexible. It really doesn’t matter. We are non judgemental and everybody works at their own pace – oh, and we have lots of laughs in class. Private lessons and groups can be arranged.

We are so much more than a Yoga class, I call this my yoga family. We do things outside of class if you wanted to join in – completely optional of course. Here’s just a few of the things we have done together.

FAQ

What do I need to bring with me?

You can bring a blanket for relaxation if you wish and a yoga mat if you have one, we do, however, have mats available. You may also choose to bring a bottle of water.

What style of yoga are the classes?

I teach Hatha Yoga, the oldest traditional style yoga with a modern twist too. I try to vary the classes to keep them interesting, so one week we may be doing a slower flowing movement and the week after it may be more standing. The classes are suitable for all levels including complete beginners.

What do I wear?

You should wear something comfortable: leggings/yoga pants, a t-shirt or long-sleeved top/fleece (not a hoody). Our yoga practice will be done in bare feet (grippy socks may be worn if preferred) and please avoid wearing loose jewellery that may get caught.

What is yoga?

Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing and comprises of postures and movements, meditation and breathing. The practice originated in India about 5,000 years ago.

Am I too old for yoga?

Definitely not. People often start yoga in their 70s, and many say they wish they had started sooner. Yoga is a form of exercise that can be enjoyed from childhood to your advanced years.  The younger you start the better, but the majority of people start yoga later in life and every practice you do will be of benefit.

Do I have to be fit and flexible to do yoga?

No, you can join a class that’s suitable for your fitness level. Some yoga classes are chair-based. Yoga will also improve your flexibility and help you go beyond your normal range of movement, which may make performing your daily activities easier.

Can I injure myself doing yoga?

Yoga-related injuries are uncommon. Some injuries can be caused by repetitive strain or overstretching. But yoga is the same as any other exercise discipline and it is important to listen to your own body and stop an exercise if you feel any discomfort or pain.
